Laura Jewell’s watercolor paintings are a heartfelt tribute to her family’s heritage, seamlessly blending the serenity of nature with the timeless tradition of quilting. In this ongoing series, Laura draws inspiration from her grandmother, a talented quilt-maker, by incorporating quilt block patterns into her vibrant nature scenes. The result is a beautiful fusion that evokes feelings of home, tradition, comfort, and wonder, all while highlighting the quiet beauty of the Midwest landscape.
This exhibition invites viewers to experience Laura’s intimate connection with her roots through delicate watercolors that speak to both the passage of time and the enduring presence of nature, tradition, and family.

About the Artist
Laura Jewell’s artistic journey began in the rural town of Holton, Kansas, where she spent much of her childhood exploring the land surrounding her family’s farm. Encouraged by her family’s deep artistic ties, including the watercolor paintings of her grandparents, Laura developed a passion for art that has continued to evolve throughout her life. After moving to South Dakota in 2007, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of South Dakota, where she was influenced by several inspirational professors. Her work now reflects the serenity and enchantment of the Midwest, capturing the essence of nature and the traditions that continue to shape her art today.
